Darien resident Douglas James Werner, 19, was stopped by a New Canaan Police officer shortly before 1 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, for allegedly speeding in a posted 25 mph zone on Farm Road near the intersection of White Oak Shade Road.

According to police, during the subsequent traffic stop, the officer “detected signs of impairment” in Werner, and he proceeded to fail Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.

Werner was taken into custody, and a breathalyzer test at New Canaan Police Headquarters determined his blood alcohol content was .054 percent. Werner was arrested and charged with operating under the influence under the age of 21 and cited for possession of alcohol in public as a minor and for speeding.

Following his processing, Werner was released on a $250 bond and scheduled to appear back in court on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
